About
Stone Mountain, Georgia native Keith A. Laing is a proud alumnus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., having received a Bachelor of Arts degree in print journalism with a minor in business administration in 2005. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in political science, with a specialization in American politics, from Georgia State University. He is the second of his parents’ three children and the first to have earned a college degree.
Keith is also a budding political journalist. He currently works for The News Service of Florida in Tallahassee, Florida as a reporter covering the Florida state legislature. Prior to that, he worked in the Georgia Senate Press Office and served as government reporter for The Brunswick News, a daily newspaper published off the coast of southeast Georgia. Additionally, he has contributed to Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine and interned at The DeKalb Champion newspaper in Decatur, Georgia. Keith also worked for both his high school and collegiate campus publications. While working for The Hilltop, which became the first daily paper at a Historically Black College or University during his tenure there, Keith served as a columnist and editor of the Life & Style section.
In addition to being a journalist, Keith excelled academically. While attending graduate school, he completed a research assistantship for a member of Georgia State University’s Department of Political Science. He was also on the John H. Johnson School of Communication’s Dean List in each of his semesters at Howard University and was inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society.
A born leader, Keith’s undergraduate campus involvement also included serving as president of the Howard University Georgia Club, which under his leadership grew into one of the largest and most recognizable such organizations at Howard. Additionally, Keith served as vice-president of Howard’s chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (HUABJ) and he is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Also, since graduating, Keith has remained active with the Howard University Alumni Association, spearheading the Atlanta chapter’s local university recruiting efforts.
Keith also finds time to give back to the community. While attending college in Washington, D.C., he worked as a tutor in the Rising Stars After School Program at Hyde Leadership Public Charter School, a local school where he mentored middle school students. He has also volunteered with Project Open Hand Atlanta in his hometown. Additionally, he has organized and chaperoned an annual bus trip for Atlanta high school juniors and seniors to his Alma Mater sponsored by the Atlanta chapter of the Howard University Alumni Association since he graduated.
Keith A. Laing’s ultimate career objective is to become an accomplished national political reporter. Yet, his plans don’t stop there. Keith intends to take the world by storm as a political correspondent and launch a successful news magazine for African-American readers.
